Out-of-date beerI can't remember exactly where I heard it (think it was Wogan on R2 one morning) but the topic of drinking out-of-date beers came up and it confirmed my own findings.
Apparently, the longer canned beer remains in the can, the stronger it gets. The "use by" date is therefore to guarantee you're drinking the beer at the manufacturer's proscribed strength.
The rationale is that if you were to drink a couple of shite lagers (eg. Skol) that were twelve months out of date, then go driving, you'd probably be over the limit whereas normally you'd be just thinning your blood.
I think we've all had an out-of-date "emergency" or "last resort" can stashed away, possibly left at the house by somebody else, which tasted just fine but had an unexpected bite to it.
Have any of the experts here had a similar experience?
